Annual Black Tie Dinner coming up - Chris Grayling MP
The annual Warwick & Leamington Conservatives' black tie dinner is on November 13th, with Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Chris Grayling MP the guest of honour. We're meeting in Rootes at 6pm and then going over to the dinner, which is at the Warwickshire Golf Club (transport has been arranged) - and then we'll be going out in Leam afterwards. US election night party, this Tuesday (4th November)
This Tuesday at 10pm the Union will open for the US election night party, organised jointly by all the political societies on campus. Bar open till 3pm - with American style food and 'Camp Obama' and 'Camp McCain' stalls - should be a great event! Hope to see you there
11th October 2008 - Chris White speaker event
After Jeremy Wright's excellent talk in week 3, come along to hear Chris White speak to us this Friday about life as the Parliamentary Candidate for Warwick & Leamington. Chris stood at the General Election in 2005 and lost out by just 266 votes. He'll be coming to speak about standing for Parliament this Friday in S0.18 at 7pm and will join us all in the bar afterwards. Email Faye for more info at f.a.lawson@warwick.ac.uk

Join us this Friday for our first speaker of the year - Jeremy Wright, MP for Rugby and Kenilworth (and one of our local MPs for campus halls) will be coming to speak in S0.18 at 7pm. Followed by a few drinks !

last night decided on the following issues:
Firstly, UWCA has unanimously voted to support the "This Union will
not ban speakers" motion currently proposed for Union referendum.
Secondly, next year's Executive Committee has been elected:
Chairman: Faye Lawson
Deputy Chairman (Financial): Thomas Wales
Deputy Chairman (Political): Andrew OBrien
Secretary: Paul Stark
Social Secretary: Dominic Dean
Committee Members: Joe Billeness, Chris Evans, William Holley, Charles Tongue.
Congratulations to all the candidates. The Society is certainly in good hands for next year.

Results are in for the Students' Union elections:
James Berragan 290 - 3rd place (President)
Peter Thomas 346 - 4th place (Vice President)
Thomas Wales 133 - 6th place (Societies Officer)
Combined vote of 769 for 'The Right Direction' slate and new records for the Conservative Candidates. Next week, the House of Commons tour and lunch with Tim Loughton. Contact James for a place.

House of Commons trip announced for week 7, contact James for tickets. This Friday 18th Janurary, Charles Walker MP for Broxbourne will be coming to speak at the earlier time of 18:30 in S0.28. Charles was elected MP for Broxbourne in 2005 and has worked hard to save the NHS in his area and (with the help of UWCA!) fight off the BNP in some of his wards. He is a very entertaining speaker and always speaks his mind!

A very in depth talk and discussion with Malcolm Harbour MEP on Friday. Next and final event of term: Christmas Dinner, Wednesday 5th December. Meet in Robin's Well, Leamington (head towards the bottom of the parade, it's on the right opposite the church) at 19:30 for drinks then on for dinner afterwards.

Lots of news to report.
On Friday we had the Warwick and Leamington Black tie dinner, a
very enjoyable meal and interesting speech by Caroline Spelman
followed by a night out in Leamington.
On Monday we had a major event, Sir John Major that is, host by the TRG in the Royal Overseas League in London. He gave a fantastic speech and stayed just long enough to get nabbed for a photo opportunity with Warwick Conservatives.
This Friday we have Malcolm Harbour, MEP for West Midlands coming to speak. Malcolm was elected in 1999 and is also the spokesman on the Internal Market. Hosted in S0.03 on Friday 30th November at 19:30.

Port and politics led to a successful discussion, even if the union banned our port half way through the meeting! The next meeting will be Chris White, PPC for Warwick and Leamington, on Friday the 16th in SO.13.
