Two Step Sparring (Ibo Matsoki)

Two step sparring varies from club to club. The ones below are those which we are required to learn. One to four are needed for Blue Tag to Blue Belt.

Attacker: Start in right L stance, forearm guarding block.

Defender: Start in parallel ready stance.

Number One

Step 1: Attack: High Section punch. Defence: Right leg back in walking stance, rising block with left hand.
Step 2: Attack: A Front kick. Defence: Left leg back in walking stance, X-fist pressing block.
Counter: Twin vertical punch.

Number Two

Step 1: Attack: Right hand side punch in fixed stance. Defence: Right leg back, in L stance, upward palm block with the left hand.
Step 2: Attack: A side kick. Defence: Left leg back into L stance (facing away), waist block.
Counter: Slide forward into right L stance (facing away), right elbow strike in the ribs.

Number Three

Step 1: Attack: Right front kick. Defence: Right leg back in walking stance, X-fist pressing block.
Step 2: Attack: Step forward, twin vertical punch. Defence: Step back with the left leg, outer forearm wedging block.
Counter: Left knee strike into ribs, pull down on opponents shoulders.

Number Four

Step 1: Attack: Right hand flat fingertip thrust. Defence: Right foot back in walking stance, Knife hand rising block.
Step 2: Attack: Left leg side kick. Defence: Left leg back in L stance, right hand inward palm block, push leg around to reveal opponents back.
Counter: Left front kick to coccyx, twin upset punch to kidneys in left walking stance.
