What happens if I'm already qualified?
If you are already qualified, the route you take is dependant on a few things. The most important of these is whether you are a member of BSAC or not. Everyone who dives with us must be a member of BSAC for insurance reasons. The next criteria is when and where you last dived. The final criteria is how many dives you have.
Assuming you have dived in waters similar to the UK in the last 6 months and you have your own gear, it is as simple as joining BSAC and going for a check dive with one of instructors.
If you need to borrow our gear, you need to be able to use a drysuit as we don't have any wet suits in our kit store.
What's involved?
If you wish to carry on your diver education with us, you need to be bought up to speed with some small theory issues, such as the use of our version of decompression tables.
All divers that need a crossover require a pool session in which you will go over the basics that you mastered when you learned to dive. It will also include a dry suit orientation.
Then once we are happy, a trip to Stoney Cove will be organised so you can dive in a controlled open water environment. This will allow you some time to practice using a drysuit, remind you of basic skills and remember why you started diving in the first place! This will also let us work out where you stand in the club, so we can accurately buddy you up with the right person.
How much does it cost?
Cost is dependant on your situation - it isn't going to be too much though!
What will I crossover to?
The BSAC 'Table of Similar Qualifications' shows you what you would crossover to. If you are an instructor wishing to crossover to BSAC please read BSAC's 'Induction of Instructors' document.
So why should I bother crossing over?
The crossover course is worth doing because without it you won't be able to dive with the club! That means missing out on trips to Plymouth, Portland, Oban and the Red Sea. Doing the crossover also means that you'll be able to further your training with us! Finally if you haven't dived for awhile, the crossover is the perfect way to dust off those old cobwebs!
