The Ground Guide

The Ground Guide consists of two sections;

Details of our home ground and facilities
A complete guide to our oppositions' grounds, including photos, travel directions and maps. As well as our scheduled league and friendly opponents, this directory has now been expanded to cover all the South Northants League clubs.

Our Ground and Travel Directions WUSCC play their home matches at the Cryfield grounds on the edge of main campus. There are two pitches, Roadside (pictured below right) and the even more scenic Lakeside. We usually play on Roadside in the first half of the season and Lakeside in the second half. There is an artificial strip on one side of the Lakeside square for use in inclement weather.

The Cryfield Sport Pitches and main pavilion are situated on Gibbet Hill Road, which passes along the edge of the main university campus area.

Parking, changing rooms, tea making and bar facilities are provided at the main pavilion. However this is situated a football pitch away from both cricket pitches, so a mini-pavilion has been erected adjacent to the Roadside pitch to offer protection from inclement weather (or some shade when necessary!) during matches. An identical pavilion has also been built by the Lakeside pitch.

Travel directions from Coventry
Take the A429 Kenilworth Road from Coventry City Centre as far as the crossroads with Gibbet Hill Road. Turn right at the traffic lights, and continue down Gibbet Hill Road to the first roundabout. Take the first exit up an access road to the pavilion. There is ample car parking behind the pavilion.

Travel directions from Leamington / The South
Leave the M40 at Junction 15 and take the dual carriageway A46 North for approx. 8-9 miles to the junction for the University and Warwick Arts Centre. Turn left here and follow the Stoneleigh Road for a mile up to the junction with the A429. At the traffic lights go straight over the crossroads onto Gibbet Hill Road, continue for 1/2 mile to the first roundabout. Take the first exit and the Roadside pitch is immediately on your left. The main pavilion is 100 yards up the road at the top of the hill. There is a car park there, but if short of time you could also park on the access road and change in the mini-pavilion.

Travel directions from A45 / M1
Follow the A45 to its junction with the A429. Turn southwards up the A429 towards Kenilworth for 3/4 mile to the crossroads with Gibbet Hill Road. Turn right at the traffic lights, and continue down Gibbet Hill Road for half a mile to the first roundabout. Take the first exit up an access road to the pavilion. The main pavilion is 100 yards up the road at the top of the hill. There is a car park there, but if short of time you could also park on the access road and change in the mini-pavilion.

The University website also provides detailed travel directions to main campus as well as this useful map of the area, and public transport details. The West Midlands Travel no. 12 bus runs from both Coventry and Leamington to main campus, 2 minutes walk from the grounds.

Very occasionally matches are played on the old main campus cricket square. This was originally the 2nd XI square, but the old main campus 1st pitch is being swallowed up by the engineering department's new building! For matches here it is necessary to park and change at the University Sports Centre, which is at the heart of main campus. To get here follow the directions above but go straight over the first roundabout on Gibbet Hill Road, continuing to the next roundabout. Take the last exit here onto the University Ring Road; the Sports Centre is on the left after 300 yards.
