If you're new to the club or thinking of joining, the following information should give you an idea of the club.
If you have any questions, feel free to email the exec at pool@warwicksu.com.
What can the pool club offer me?
The pool club offers people the chance to play pool in a friendly and sociable environment.
We host regular tournaments (usually one every week), as well as numerous social events throughout the year.
In addition, we run a ladder tournament every week, to give members the opportunity to play regular competitive matches.
Events
What kinds of events do the club run?
We run a wide range of events, with the following usually held once each term:
- singles
- doubles
- mixed doubles
- end of term competition, held over two weeks, with more prize money available
In addition, we also run special competitions, which in the past have included the following:
- fantasy football pool, where people can choose between the Champions League and the Uefa Cup (to give everyone a decent chance of winning some prizes)
- the Davis Cup, a team event for teams of four players, with singles and doubles matches
- the Warwick Challenge, a two team event similar to the Ryder Cup
We also have plans to introduce new competitions, such as a handicap tournament, and are always open to new ideas. If you have a great idea for an event, email us!

When are tournaments held?
Tournaments are held every Tuesday night, unless there is a full union event (in which case we do not have access to the tables).
In such cases, we usually hold a social in either Coventry or Leamington.
I'm not very good at pool! Is it still worth me entering tournaments?
Absolutely - players of all ability enter tournaments, and we usually have group stages followed by knockout.
This guarantees that everyone will get to play at least a few matches. Also, many of our tournaments have a 'Clock' section, which is a knockout competition
for the people who don't quite make it through to the main knockout section.
Why is the losers' knockout competition called the 'Clock'?
The Clock was born in 2004, when the exec decided to have a second knockout competition to keep more people playing for as long as possible.
The prize was events organiser Matt Parkes' kitchen clock, stolen from his house by some friends. Hence the Clock was born. As it happened, Matt won the tournament
anyway, winning back his clock, and everyone went home happy!
