Freshers Tournament Review -
Posted by Connor at 22:50, Wed 19th October 2011
This weekend saw 24 people compete in the Freshers Tournament. Split into four groups of six, the participants played each other in best of five frames group games, with three from each group going through to the knockout stages.
Second and third places then played a playoff round to decide who would go through to meet a winner of another group in the quarter finals. The quarter finals, played as best of seven frames, saw some tight games as well as a couple of more open ones, before giving us a semi final line up of Cookson Chiu v Matt Ansell and Joe Redhead v Ben Li. With Joe through in a comfortable 5-0 win, attention turned to the other semi, which went to a tense deciding frame with Cookson scraping through.
The final of Cookson v Joe, played to a best of eleven, started off well for Cookson who went 3-0 up with a superior potting display. Joe looked completely out of the match until he got off the mark in the fourth frame, then pulling it back to 3-3 before Cookson accidentally potted the black to give Joe the lead. Joe moved to within one frame from victory in the next, leaving Cookson needing to win 3 on the bounce to deny him. Joe had chances in the ninth to take the title, but couldn't sink the black and Cookson capitalised to make it 5-4.
At this point, we could see both players were getting a bit nervous, as Cookson played under the pressure of knowing he may be only one mistake from losing, and Joe wondered if another chance would come as good as the one he missed. The tenth frame was a scrappy affair, as you may expect, but Joe came through to clinch victory 6-4 and claim the £30 prize and the winner's trophy.
Well done to everyone who took part, we look forward to seeing you at future tournaments and pool club events.

END OF TERM SOCIAL - PUB SNOOKER -
Posted by Graeme Woodward at 19:09, Tue 14th June 2011
Where - Campus and then into Leamington
When - Monday 27th June (Week 10) around 8pm
What - Pub Snooker
I bring you infomation of the last social of the term. Its happening on monday 27th june and will be PUB SNOOKER
Playing in pairs against all other pairs, the idea will be to 'pot' as many balls as possible in 'making a break'. Breaks will be made in the conventional way going red/colour/red/colour etc all the way till clearing up the colours at the end. Only in this game instead of potting a ball you will be drinking a drink. In your pairs you take turns to pot a red whilst the other person pots a colour.
(If you are as bad as I am at snooker (thats really bad) then this may be your best chance to rack up a 50 or 100 break)
We can sort pairs out on the night, but as your social sec, should there be an odd number i will try and complete this on my own, for the humour of you all!!!
I want to start this on campus next monday at 6.45, where we can have a couple of drinks in the Dirty Duck before heading into Leamington, pub crawling our way through town before ending up in evolve for notorious mondays. I see that uniexpress are running to Evolve so it may be worth enquiring about just getting travel back with them after evolve to save a bit of money, or alternatively, i have a sofa and steve/connor/rob/jon/hannah/any other leamingtonians may be able to accomodate one or two of you.
As we know, snooker players do dress smart when they play and this will be no expception. Whilst i think waistcoat and bow-tie may be a little OTT and difficult to get hold of, smart dress will be required.
That is all for now, please attend i think it will be a great laugh and great way to finish term off from a social perspective. Also feel free to bring along friends etc.
Any queries email me, and also if you could email me if your attending just so i know how many to expect
See you soon
Graeme - Drinking Secretary
Red: 1 pint of lager/cider/purple

Game, Set and Match -
Posted by Josh at 01:27, Sat 22nd May 2010
On the night, only 5 competitors showed, so a single league was decided upon. Simple league, everyone playing each other twice, first to 2 frames in front. Simple? No.
Anyway, here are the final results from the first ever...
I think that's all the results. If there are any problems, let me know.
