(My first game in division 1 went pretty well in my opinion, although my opponent did allow me to pretty much dominate him in an attempt to manufacture a pawn rush on my castled king)1.e4 d6 2.Bc4 g6 3.d4 Bg7 4.Nc3 Nd7 5.Be3 a6 6.Qd3 e6 7.Ne2 Ne7 8.f4 b6 9.0-0 Bb7 10.Ng3 h6 (this passive move seemed to serve little purpose except allowing me to initiate an attack, much better is 0-0 to get the king to safety)11.f5 ef 12.ef Nf6 13.fg fg (now the king is starting to look exposed, kings side castling is not an option and the queens side is still under developed)14.d5 b5 15.Bb3 Ng4 16.Bd4 Ne5 17.Bxe5 Bxe5 18.Nxb5 (the pawns have been severely weakened and are now exposed to this sort of tactic - if...axb5 19.Qxb5 and wins the bishop on b7 whatever is played) Bxg3 19.hxg3 Bc8 (probably the best thing that can be done here) 20.Qc3 Kd7
21.Nxc7 Qxc7 22.Ba4+ (the final nail in the coffin, black either resigns or loses a huge amount of material and then gets mated) 1-0

I was quite pleased with this escape from defeat as it is my first win against a 170+ player in the league.
1. e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 Nf6 4.e5 Ng8(not what I had prepared for but apparently a rare line against the
Tarrasch) 5.Bd3 b6 6.Ne2 Ba6 7.Nf3 Qd7 8.c3 Bxd3 9.Qxd3 Ne7 10.Ng3 a6 11.a4 c5 12.o-o c4 (a bit worrying now I have the backwards pawn on b2 and an isolated pawn on a4, positionally this could be regarded as a loss for white as black can mobilise all his forces against the b pawn and then break open the file with b5,however I wasn't going down so easily...) 13.Qc2 Nec6 14.Nh5 (this is a sneaky move as I can play Bh6 next due to the threat of forking king and queen on f6 if he takes the bishop, sadly he spotted it)..Qb7 15.Nf4 Na5 16.Be3 Nb3 17.Ra2 Nc6 18.Ne2 h6 19.Nc1 Nba5 20.Nd2 Be7 21.f4 g6 22.Ne2 Qd7 23.Rf3 h5 24.Rff1 o-o 25.Raa1 Rfb8 26.Kh1 Bf8 27.Rg1 b5 (as predicted on move 12 he has massed his forces against the b2 pawn and I now am faced with a decision of either playing Ra2 and Rb1 as a very precarious defence or forfeit the pawn to have a go at his king, I chose the latter) 28.axb5 Rxb5 29.g4 hxg4 30.Rxg4 Rab8 31.Rab1 Qb7 32.f5 exf5 33.Qxf5 Ne7 34.Qh5 Bg7 35.Qh3 Qc8 36.Rbg1 Nf5 37.Nf4 Nh6(this looks like a nice way to threaten to win an exchange as well as using the pin on my queen and rook to get the queens off the board and then win on the queenside but actually paves the way to my victory)38.Nxg6 fxg6 39.Bxh6 R5b6 40.Qh4 Qf5 41.Rf4 Qd3?(a final mistake, the queen was the last defence of his king and without it defending the seventh rank I can force a win)42.Bxg7 Kxg7 43.Qe7+ Kg8 44.Qf7+ 1-0
He can play a slower sequence at the end which still loses [43...Kh8 44.Rh4+ Kg8
45.Qh7+ Kf8 46.Qh8+ Ke7 47.Rh7+ Ke6 48.Qf6#] - although this sequence was
pointed out to me after the game by Fritz I would like to think I could have
found it in the game with about 30 minutes thinking time left on my clock.
