Our final league race of the season took place in Cheltenham. It was a great way to round off with both the men and women competing at the same venue. There was plenty of support and the weather was glorious, making for a great day of racing. The course incorporated some obstacles reminiscent of the classic Senneleys Park course in Birmingham – the infamous water jump.
Though numbers were down after some hard racing the previous weekend in Cardiff, our men finished as one of the only clubs with both an A and B team and our women finished as the 9th team on the day.
Even with a few niggles in the club all our athletes completed the race and finished the season on a high. The women finished the season as the 7th team out of 26 and can look forward to competing in the top division next year when the league is being split in to two tiers. Due to an injury ridden season the men unfortunately occupied the final relegation spot, finishing 14 of 16 clubs. However next year we look forward to achieving a strong result competing in the second division in the Birmingham league.
Well done to all for such a fantastic effort this year and good luck to next season’s captains.
On Saturday 4th February we took teams to compete in BUCS Cross-Country in Cardiff, Wales. With over 50 universities present there was a phenomenal atmosphere with a lot of spectators and hundreds of runners. The conditions were... well, snowy! The ground was pretty solid with freezing weather and heavy snow falling throughout making for an interesting and fast race on the flat course.
